Kongens Kær close to Vejle city.

Kongens Kær
English: the King's Fens/ the King's Meadows

Kongens Kær was named by the citizens of Vejle. It lies in eastern part of Vejle River valley and forms a wedge into the western part of Vejle city. It is a unique nature area which together with the lake Knapperup Sø creates a wet area of over 100 ha.

Kongens Kær was through many years kept relatively dry by help of pumps which dewatered the area, and it was possible to use it for farming. In connection to the weat area- project the pumps were switched off. To secure the neighbours against flood an earthen embankment was built around the area.

The seagulls nest in every place they can find.

The living conditions of the bird life and the rare birch mouse (Sicista betulina)  are improved by establishing bird islands and earth banks. The low water level creates ideal conditions for a varied and species-rich plant society.

The birds are quick to acknowledge the improved living conditions. Here are many waders and waterfowls, and birds of prey like the marsh harrier, the red kite and occassionally the osprey. Even the white-tailed eagle has visited the area. The white-tailed eagle is a top-predator and in top of the food chain, and it tells us that Kongens Kær has a good, versatile and rich nature.

-the platform reaches out in the air like the bridge of a ship

Kongens Kær has become an attractive destination for the citizens of Vejle and other interested, also the schools. From the large platform at the country road you can watch across the pretty landscape of Vejle River valley and the bird life in the wet meadows. The big platform has also access for wheel chairs. Downside by the path is a bridge out to a small platform in the edge of the wet area.

Lovely scene, that first photo of King's Meadows...what a nice area for walking, loved the nature path and the bridge out to the viewing platform.

Hope the neighbor issue has lessened for you Grethe or resolved completely...nothing worse than to have our home environment influenced negatively by others.

Beautiful photos, Grethe. It's especially interesting how an embankment was built to protect the neighbors from the returned land. We can all live together after all!

Grethe, I have been having so much fun identifying new birds at my feeder this spring. Several Baltimore Orioles have made this home and so I have added a feeder just for them.

I hope your neighbor issue was resolved peacefully or you have moved to a new flat that's more comfortable and quiet. Moving can be such a chore. Hope you are well. Hugs...

Hej Kittie, making such embankments are thought much about now in the municipalities. In many places and along the coast too have been much flood in special areas during the latest years.
Lovely to hear from you!

Wauw Teresa, they are very beautiful those Baltimore Orioles. I've just found them on the net. It must be interesting to watch them.

Thank you so much for coming here. I have not been visiting you for a long time but I'll catch up with you!!
Just now I have become stubborn now. I don't want to be chaesed out from my flat, there are rules supporting me. But let's see. I have been out looking for another flat and I can get one quickly if I want. My membership is an old one. Thank you for your good wishes.

What a lovely place! I’ll never feel tired of walking there. Nature can prevail if only assisted by humans properly.

Our rainy season, which started at the end of May earlier than usual and is supposed to last for a month, seems to be dry rainy season. I’m worried about water shortage when summer comes with its full force. Enjoy your beautiful summer, Grethe.

What a beautiful area.

Hej Yoko, it's not good if you don't get rain in summer. I sometimes wonder when I see the waterstreams in winter when there seem to be lots of water, and then it will quickly disaopppear if the rain does not come. We re really dependent on rain.
Maybe we should do a rain dance!!

It's another story in eastern Europe these days with flood in beautiful Prague and now in Budapest. Nature is capricious.

Thank you! I'll return your good wishes for the summer!
